well, sometimes DSO does play certain dates, where the dead played awfully. so by comparison, some specific shows i've heard live, outperform the original when i go back and listen to it after the show.

Overheard the following exchange between two old Heads at a DSO show - (somewhat paraphrased)

Old Head #1: "These guys are good, but they're not as good as the Dead."

Old Head #2: "Yeah, I know what you mean. They know all the words and don't make as many mistakes."
